Alexandre Bornibus was born in 1821 in Verpillières-sur-Ource, Aube. He was first a teacher and then a dairy farm manager. In 1860 he took over a mustard factory in the Les Halles district of Paris. Originally called Touaillon et fils, which was quickly renamed the naming brand we know: BORNIBUS.
Maison Bornibus was therefore founded in 1861.
In just a few years, Alexandre Bornibus became one of the kings of mustard in France, thanks in particular to his innovation efforts. In 1864 he filed a patent for "sifting mustard and various other materials."
