At the western foot of the Bakony, the Somló rises out of the Kisalföld plain. According to tradition, this mountain, which is as old as the volcanic cones of the Balaton highlands, got its name from the red som on it. Thanks to the excellent soil and favorable climate, excellent quality wines have been produced in Hungary's smallest wine region for centuries. The Somló Spirit Pálinkaház, founded in 2009, wants to complement the tradition of winemaking by introducing quality pálinka production, since nothing can better return the fire, steadfastness and passion that the volcanic cone of Somló enclosed within itself millions of years ago than the distillate made from the grapes and pomace grown on Tánúhegy.
