Liquor producer Scapegrace is spending more than $25 million to build a whisky distillery in Central Otago, set to be the largest in the country. Scapegrace founder Daniel Mclaughlin said the 36-hectare whisky distillery and bottling plant was the next logical step for a company with the mission to create world-famous spirits in New Zealand. Mclaughlin started Scapegrace in 2014 alongside his brother-in-law Mark Neal and friend Richard Bourke. What started as a mission to create an excellent Kiwi-made gin quickly expanded to include vodka, whisky, and now a distillery on the shores of Otago’s Lake Dunstan.
