The story of Nando's began during the South-African gold fever, when Portuguese people made open-fire roasted chicken and spiced it with peri-peri chili. The spicy-smokey chicken mesmerized the people and created the restaurant Chickenland that was later bought by two friends, Roberto and Fernando. The name of the restaurant was changed to Nando's soon.
