About the company

During the Cretaceous period, when almost all of today's Italy lay beneath the seabed, seismic geological shifts began that eventually resulted in the rich mix of soils and rocks found in Casanova di Neri's seven vineyards. Over the following millennia, it shaped the hills of Montalcino and the basins of the Ombrone and Orcia rivers that surround it, creating a soil like the crumbly clay shale known as galestro, on which the Sangiovese grape reaches its best potential. The soil here is also rich in special minerals, such as the precious onyx, which was found in the Pietradonice vineyard on the site of a former quarry. The winery owns 7 wonderful vineyards: Fiesole, Cerretalto, Collalli, Podernuovo, Pietradonice, Giovanni Neri and Cetine.

Product description

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is the protagonist of the vintage. This goes far beyond the usual cherries and blackberries: plum cake, spiced bread and bacon-wrapped prunes. Nothing is clear or plain about this wine. Everything is nuanced and ethereal. Tenuta Nuova is also made unique by the mineral notes that are characteristic of this single-vineyard area. In 2010, these qualities are particularly well defined and emphasized. The tannins achieve a flexibility that is almost impossible to find in the sometimes pungent and acidic Sangiovese grape. Giacomo Neri knows his grapes very well, he knows exactly when it is best to harvest and it shows. Collectors can put this wine away for ten years or longer. The big-name wine writers scored it between 97 and 100 points.
