Perliss wines are aged in both terracotta amphorae and oak barrels. These two materials allow for different expressions from the fruit, which are then blended in their most advantageous proportions.
Cherry, malted chocolate, nutmeg, plum, toffee, violets, clove, vanilla, cedar, sandalwood and eucalyptus on the nose. Big attack ont he palate with very ripe stone fruits, candied citrus, cherry, cocoa, cranberry, red currants, pomegranate, forest humus. Everything in place, note of umeboshi salted plum. Great concentration and complexity in this vintage, even a bit of flashiness
A Brooklyn native, Dr. Herbert moved to San Francisco in 1971 as a physician with the US Military. In 1989, he purchased thirteen acres of unimproved land in Napa Valley’s northernmost AVA, Calistoga, to further enjoy the diverse natural beauty of the Golden State. In 2008, almost twenty years after finding the property, the timing felt right to plant some vines.
