The proximity of the distillery to the sea lends a slightly briny character to Akashi whiskeys, a flavour that is perhaps most prominent in this single malt. Aged approximately 5-8 years in ex-Bourbon, sherry, brandy and barley casks.

The Eigashima Shuzo (White Oak) distillery in Akashi, Japan, is one of the oldest distilleries, which originally made sake but now produces whiskey, wine and umeshu liqueur as well. The ninth generation now runs the company in one of the warmest and driest areas in Japan, close to Osaka Bay.
