BioOrto is an Italian family business founded in 2003 by Nino Passalacqua. His grandparents, Giulia and Pietro, settled in Tavoliere delle Puglie to farm the low-lying pastures. The Passalacqua family owns more than 500 hectares in northern Apulia, at the foot of the Gargano National Park. The special Mediterranean microclimate, the mineral water filtered through the land, enriches and fertilizes the soil. Organic vegetables typical of the region, including organic tomatoes, are grown. Bio Orto makes delicious Italian tomato specialties, including tomato passata, hand-peeled tomatoes and a variety of tomato sauces, including basil or chili. Tomatoes are harvested and sorted by hand. If necessary, they are dried in the Mediterranean sun and marinated in extra virgin olive oil (for example, dried tomatoes). This high-quality olive oil is also produced by Bio Orto itself.
