This rich, golden colour oil has been made from the highest quality sesame seeds, carefully roasted then pressed to collect their fragrant oil.
In 1938, Mr. Oh Kim An founded Oh Aik Guan, Singapore's oldest sesame oil manufacturer. The founder was born in An Xi Province, Fujian, which is located in southern China. Due to the widespread poverty in China as a result of the Chinese Civil War from 1927 to 1947, he hoped for a better life in Singapore. Due to the scarcity of food and economic opportunities in China, Mr. Oh Kim An made a firm decision and traveled from China to Singapore in the 1920s. He had relatives who were skilled in making sesame oil, and when he arrived, they taught him how to make sesame oil. Mr. Oh Hock Hai was a second generation descendant of Oh Aik Guan. He was born in Hai Nan Village, now known as Shunfu Road near Thomson Road. Back then, Shunfu Road was known for its sesame oil production. Its purpose was to spread the benefits of sesame seeds to the company's customers. Both his sons and daughters spent most of their time helping their parents and had little exposure to the outside world. Their only desire was to carry on their father's legacy in any way possible. The production of sesame oil was labor intensive from the late 1930s to the 1980s. Oh Hock Hai's sons were responsible for the production and delivery of sesame oil.
